Presentation Title: Blunt Abdominal Trauma: From Impact to Intervention
Description: Blunt abdominal trauma can be deceptively subtle, with significant internal injuries occurring despite minimal external findings. This live, virtual webinar will provide nurses with a practical approach to the assessment and management of pediatric patients following blunt abdominal trauma.

The presentation will explore mechanisms of injury, focused assessment, high-risk findings, common intra-abdominal injuries, diagnostic evaluation, ongoing monitoring, and indications for timely escalation of care. Through an emphasis on early recognition and clinical decision-making, participants will gain strategies to identify evolving injuries, communicate concerning findings, and support timely intervention to reduce the risk of complications.

Mary Maginas MSN, RN, CPNP-PC is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Trauma Program Manager at Rady Children’s Health of Orange County. Mary has more than 20 years of experience in pediatrics, including 15 years specializing in pediatric trauma, neurosurgery, and concussion care. A graduate of Columbia University’s Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program, Mary has worked at leading pediatric centers, including Boston Children’s Hospital and Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. 

Mary is actively involved in pediatric trauma education, quality improvement, research, and injury prevention, with a particular focus on pediatric e-bike injuries and traumatic brain injury. She serves as Co-Chair of the APSNA Trauma Special Interest Group and Chair of the Pediatric Trauma Society Advanced Practice Provider Committee. She is also an ATLS and TNCC instructor and is passionate about advancing pediatric trauma care through education and evidence-based practice.
